Chris Ferguson shows off his paycheck after rallying from the tail.
What won the race: Rallying from the 23rd starting spot, Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., charged through the field to register a stirring $10,000 victory in Saturday's Southeast Crate Association-sanctioned Performance Automotive 100 at Cherokee Speedway. He beat Trent Ivey of Union, S.C., to the finish line by 1.633 seconds.
Key notes: Ferguson was forced to start at the rear of the field after tangling with a lapped car while contending for victory in a heat race on Friday night. ... The triumph came one week after Ferguson won an Ultimate Southeast-sanctioned feature at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. It was his second Crate victory of 2017 driving for Jeremy and Tina Bullins — he won the Crate portion of the Aug. 9 Shrine 100 at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C. — and eighth overall checkered flag. ... Prolific Northeast winner Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., invaded Cherokee and finished third. ... The inaugural Performance Automotive 100 was both the longest and richest event in SECA's five-year history. ...
On the move: Ferguson ripped through the field to win from the 23rd starting spot.
Winner's sponsors: Ferguson's Jeremy and Tina Bullins-owned Rocket Chassis carries sponsorship from Joe's Racing Products, The Racing Warehouse, MWH Bucking Bulls, Live Oak Aesthetic and Family Dentistry and Champion Parts.
Points chase: Dillon Brown is the 2017 SECA weekly champion; Jeff Cooke is Cherokee’s Crate Late Model champion.
