Max Blair heads to his first victory at Delaware International Speedway.
What won the race: Third-starting Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., grabbed the lead from polesitter John Waters on the second lap and led the rest of the way in Wednesday’s Battle of the Bay opener at Delaware International Speedway. Austin Hubbard rallied from 11th to finished second in the RUSH tour opener.
Quotable: "We've got a lot of family here with us and it's really cool to win the first race my little boy, who was born in January, has ever been to," winner Max Blair said. "We were just a touch off all night, especially early on, but we just tweaked on it and tweaked on it. Tonight I was a big fan of that dash because we threw some stuff at it and it was a lot better."
Key notes: Blair won his, and RUSH's, Delaware debut. … He finished 1.912 seconds ahead of Hubbard. ... Blair has a series-leading 19 career RUSH victories. ... Action was slowed on lap 13 when Darren Alvey’s car caught fire on a restart. He was uninjured. … Chuck Bowie won the non-qualifiers' race. ... Four Battle of the Bay races carry a $3,000 points fund, with the winner awarded $1,000 and the runner-up $500. … The mini-tour moves just 20 miles away to Georgetown Speedway on Thursday, wrapping up the only RUSH series stops in Delaware this season. … Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md. (Friday) and Winchester (Va.) Speedway (Saturday) close out the Battle of the Bay.
On the move: Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., improved nine spots en route to a runner-up finish.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Specialty Products, Murphy’s Logging, C&J Dairy, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, Upstate Auto Group, Sons of the American Legion Post 1460, Moody & Son Welding, Niemeyer’s Garage and Integra Racing Shocks.
