Shawn Chastain held off Ray Cook to win at Blue Ridge.
What won the race: Taking advantage of his brother's misfortune, Shawn Chastain of Murphy, N.C., assumed command on lap 29 and topped Ray Cook in a five-lap shootout to win Saturday night's 40-lap Schaeffer's Southern National Bonus Series A-main at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park. Johnny Chastain, who started on the front row alongside his brother, was in control until he experienced a flat tire with 11 laps remaining, opening the door for Shawn to claim the $4,000 winner's prize.
Key notes: Shawn Chastain finished 1.096 seconds ahead of Cook, the tour's promoter. ... The victory was the second of Chastain's career in Southern Nationals Bonus competition after a Sept. 29, 2017, score at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C. His brother Johnny was bidding for his first-ever SNB triumph. ... David Payne drove a throwback car that paid tribute to his father Ronnie's former ride.
