What won the race: Using momentum from the topside line around FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway, Craig Parker of El Mirage, Ariz., grabbed the lead from Brad Williams early in the 25-lap main event and then held back a late charge from John Cornell to win his first SWDRA feature of the season.
Key notes: The win, worth $700, was the third SWDRA victory of Parker’s career. His previous two wins came last season at Arizona Motorplex in Tucson and Thunder Raceway in Show Low, Ariz. … Only six cars finished the race. … Scott Francouer of SanTan Valley, Ariz., earned the pole via the redraw, but experienced engine problems and couldn’t make the call for the feature. … Williams moved to the pole when Francouer failed to make it to the starting grid. … James Laing also failed to take the green. … Cornell, of Phoenix, Ariz., has five victories and two runner-up finishes in seven SWDRA races this season. … Saturday's program opened the John Morris Classic, a two-night event at Arizona Speedway this weekend. Action continues at the track near Queen Creek on Sunday with another complete program.
On the move: Kelly Johnson of Peoria, Ariz., started sixth and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Parker’s winning machine is sponsored by ATEC Engineering, King Dyno, Klein Engines and EMD Wraps.
Points chase: John Cornell of Phoenix, Ariz., sits atop the SWDRA standings.
