Andy Eckrich notched his eighth career Deery Brothers tour win.
What won the race: Holding off a fast-closing Justin Kay as the leaders negotiated lapped traffic, Andy Eckrich of Oxford, Iowa, won Tuesday’s IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Marshalltown Speedway. The second-starting Eckrich took the lead from polesitter Curt Martin on lap three and led the rest of the 50-lapper to win ahead of Kay, who rallied from 12th, and Todd Cooney, who started seventh.
Quotable: “There were feelings of relief and redemption. We’ve been busy with work and family and haven’t had time to focus on our hobby,” winner Andy Eckrich said. “It’s the first time in a while that we’ve been able to do that.”
Key notes: Andy Eckrich earned $2,000 for his eighth career Deery Brothers victory. His last series win was April 11, 2014 at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. … Eckrich won at Marshalltown in 2011 as well. … Action was delayed about 10 minutes just before 10 p.m. when the lights around the speedway went off during the modified feature. … Heat winners earned $200 each courtesy of Rumours Bar and Grill, while Eckrich picked up an additional $200 for winning his heat and the feature. … Marshalltown native Darrel DeFrance has competed at all 484 events in series history. … Pulling double duty, Cayden Carter of Oskaloosa, Iowa, won the modified main event. Carter finished eighth in the Late Model feature.
