Nick Beyenhof gets rolling before his home-track victory.
What won the race: Hometown driver Nick Beyenhof raced to victory from outside the front row at Rapid Speedway for his third career Tri-State Late Model Series victory. He earned $1,000 in outrunning rookie Blair Nothdurft and his brother Nate Beyenhof.
Quotable: "I've been on rough racetracks before, but I've never been on a rough racetrack in the lead," winner Nick Beyenhof said. "It's a lot harder to hit your marks, that's for sure."
Key notes: Thirteen drivers were running at the finish. ... Rodney Barse and Kenny Bartels scratched from the feature after their cars sustained damage in a frontstretch accident in the second heat. ... Track safety worker Bill Sproke was injured when he crashed his four-wheeler responding to that red-flag incident, according to the series; he suffered an apparent broken leg. ... Brad Vogt scratched from the first heat and was the feature's first retiree. ... The event was pushed back one week by weather. ... The series made the first of three stops at Rock Rapids with return dates schedules for July 17 and Sept. 15.
On the move: Jordan Heiman of Sioux Falls, S.D., improved eight positions after starting 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Nick Beyenhof's MB Customs car is powered by a Sput's Racing Engine and sponsored by Four Seasons Companies, Todd’s Beer Cave, LVO Mfg., Beyenhof Estates, Demarteleare Trucking, Jim Hommes Farms, Town & Country Disposal, Fastert Trucking and Heitritter Graphix.
