Tommy Kerr (4T) gets the jump on fellow front-row starter Riley Hickman (R1).
What won the race: Earning his first career Southern All Star Series victory, hometown driver Tommy Kerr held off Blount Motorsports teammate Casey Roberts for a flag-to-flag victory in the Super Late Model portion of the Big Daddy 500. The fourth-starting Roberts pulled alongside the polesitter in turn two with three laps remaining but couldn't complete the winning pass.
Quotable: "I kept looking on the board and I seen that my teammate was in second ... and I started running hard," winner Tommy Kerr said. "Blount Motorsports is a heckuva Dirt Late Model race team. I'm so glad I got to drive this thing tonight and win this race."
Key notes: Kerr notched his first victory since June 3, 2017, in Schaeffer's Iron-Man Championship Series competition. ... Kerr finished third in Southern All Star points while running the tour in 2011 but never cracked victory lane. ... Kerr runs a part-time schedule while runner-up Casey Roberts is the team's primary driver. ... Roberts is still looking for his first victory since replacing Donald McIntosh last fall. ... Caution flags appeared on lap seven (blown tire for Vic Hill) and at halfway (Ray McElhiney slowed) and lap 22. ... The series has not seen a repeat winner through seven events. ... Smoky Mountain has three more SAS dates this season on Aug. 25 and Oct. 5-6.
On the move: Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Tenn., started 15th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Kerr's Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and is sponsored by Tennessee RV Supercenter, Massey Electric, Blount Excavating, Arnold Trucking, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Food City, Wine & Spirits Center, Go Lithium and Stowers CAT.
Points chase: Entering the event, rookie Jay Scott of Fayetteville, Tenn., had 492 points to lead Mark Dodson (422) and Ray McElhiney (402) in the SAS points chase.
