Jeremiah Hurst won his first Deery Brothers feature in 16 years.
What won the race: Charging from the 11th starting position, Jeremiah Hurst of Dubuque, Iowa, took the lead on lap 23 of 50 and went on to claim his first Deery Brothers Summer Series win since 2002. Thursday’s victory at Benton County Speedway over eighth-starting Curt Martin was worth $2,000.
Quotable: “This is awesome. It’s my first win since my heart attack (last July). It seems like we have a lot of seconds,” said Hurst. “It feels really good to be able to win tonight. I wasn’t sure about the (track surface) before the feature. It was good on the top and the middle, but it was way too good on the bottom to give that up.”
Key notes: Hurst finished a full second ahead of Martin. … The victory was Hurst's first Deery Brothers Summer Series victory of the season and third of his career. ... Hurst's previous series victories came Sept. 2, 2002 at Boone (Iowa) Speedway and Sept. 8, 2001 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa. … The race was slowed by two cautions, laps 13 and 16. … Martin grabbed second when second-running John Emerson fell off the pace after getting too high with 10 laps remaining. ... It was the season’s only series visit to Benton County, which previously hosted the tour in 1988 and 2005.
On the move: Hurst improved 10 spots after starting 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Hurst's Roberts Motorsports Black Diamond Chassis is sponsored by Roberts Custom Software, Capri College, Roemer Machine & Welding, Preston Telephone Company, Bader Construction and UAW.
Points chase: Justin Kay (207) leads Ryan Dolan (185), Jeremiah Hurst (178), Joe Zrostlik (174) and Chad Holladay (172).
