Dustin Mitchell smiles in victory lane after his first-ever Ultimate Southeast win Saturday at County Line Raceway.
What won the race: Shuffling race leader Gary Dillon back to third on a restart with 12 laps remaining, Dustin Mitchell of Pine Level, N.C., paced the final 11 laps to win Saturday's 40-lap Ultimate Southeast Super Late Model Series Tar River Rumble at County Line Raceway. Mitchell earned $4,000 for his first career tour victory, taking the checkered flag 2.807 seconds in front of Justin Williams, who grabbed second on the final circuit.
Key notes: The polesitting Dillon grabbed the lead at the initial green flag and maintained command until Mitchell made his move following a lap-28 restart, sliding into the lead on the 29th circuit when Dillon slipped high in turn one. ... Dillon faded to 10th in the final rundown. ... Points leader Kyle Hardy started on the outside pole but fell back to fourth on the opening lap and ultimately finished seventh. ... Mitchell became the ninth different winner in 11 Ultimate Southeast events this season. ... The race was originally scheduled for March 17 but was twice reset because of inclement weather. It was the Ultimate Southeast's only stop at County Line this season and the 10th visit in series history.
On the move: Winner Dustin Mitchell started 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Mitchell’s C&R Motorsports No. 32 is a Black Diamond Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine and sports sponsorship from TWA Concrete Services, Harry’s Tire & Auto, CarQuest, The Muffler Place, Corky’s Auto Sales and Team Xtreme Tire & Auto.
Points chase: Hardy remained atop the standings after County Line with 292 points, leading Zack Mitchell (283), Joey Coulter (274), Tyler Millwood (248) and Dennis Franklin (231).
