Kyle Lukon (184) battles Ross Bailes (79) en route to victory.
What won the race: Kyle Lukon of Burgettstown, Pa., celebrated the biggest win of his career Saturday night, earning $7,000 for capturing the 50-lap Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Great American Crate Race at Tyler County Speedway. He swapped the lead several times with Ross Bailes before finally gaining control for good shortly after a lap-44 restart.
Quotable: "That was something else. That lapped traffic, I thought I threw the race away," winner Kyle Lukon said. "But then Ross (Bailes) got hung up behind a couple of lapped cars. I figured I'd just keep doing what I was doing and got back around him. We got that caution and I didn't know if I wanted to see it or not."
Key notes: Competitors credited Lukon's tire choice for helping him win. ... Ross Bailes, making his Tyler County debut, settled for runner-up money while driving a Billy Hicks-owned car. ... Lukon apologized to third-finishing Zack Dohm for contact on a restart; Dohm didn't appreciate it, but simply couldn't keep up. ... "He had the best car; I watched him after he passed me ... but still sometimes you've gotta lift a little bit and show a little respect," Dohm said. ... Florida invader Mark Whitener finished sixth. ... A multicar tangle on the race's opening lap saw Trey Watson get turned around in turn four and collect Brett Hamm, Corey Almond, Derek Doll, and Ryan Payne. ... Doll piloted winner Kyle Lukon's backup car. ... The event drew 39 drivers from eight states.
On the move: Ninth-finishing Daryl Charlier of Midway, Pa., earned Bastey Site Equipment Hard Charger honors.
Winner's sponsors: Lukon's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Catalytic Combustion Emission Technologies, Race 1, Lukon's Reb-Fab, Ingram Engines and Frankland Rear Ends.
Points chase: Heading to Tyler County, Matthew Nance of Ronda, N.C., had 188 points to lead Ross Bailes (135) and Brett Hamm (127).
