James Lichliter takes the checkered flag at Hagerstown Speedway.
What won the race: James Lichliter of Maurertown, Va., grabbed the lead from polesitter Craig Wagaman on lap three and marched on to his first career Mason-Dixon Shootout Series victory in Saturday night's 25-lap Triple Crown feature at Hagerstown Speedway. The biggest triumph of Lichliter's young career was worth $1,000.
Quotable: "We're used to the 20-lap races here and, with 25 (laps), I started to see the rubber come in on the bottom and I was getting worried," Lichliter said. "(When) I caught the lapped cars, I wasn’t sure if they were running side-by-side and I didn’t know what to do, and finally one got around each other. I got up alongside one and knew nobody could get on the outside of me and I continued that line."
Key notes: Lichliter, who started second, had a half-straightaway edge over Wagaman wiped out by a lap-11 caution flag. ... Barry Miller overtook Wagaman for second on lap 13, but, even with lapped traffic entering the picture with two laps remaining, Lichliter never allowed Miller to get close enough to challenge. ... Shaun Jones, who won the Triple Crown weekend opener for the Limited Late Model tour Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., finished 15th. ... The three-race swing ends Sunday at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway.
On the move: Brad McGinnis of Huntingdon, Pa., started 17th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Lichliter’s MasterSbilt Race Car is powered by a Hershey’s Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Valley Collision Repair, Maurertown Trailers, Penske Racing Shocks by JDS, ARC Racing and Chaz’s U-Pull-It.
Points chase: Heading into the Triple Crown weekend, Jeremy Ohl of Jersey Shore, Pa., had 332 points to lead Justin Weaver (296) and Devin Hart (286).
Car count: 36
Polesitter: Craig Wagaman
Heat race winners: Randy Burkholder, Michael Walls, Craig Wagaman, Devin Hart
