Winner Dennis Erb Jr. (28) battles Ron Berna (66) Friday at Wilmot.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when race-dominating Brian Shirley spun on lap 30, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., led the remaining 20 laps at Wilmot Raceway. The fifth-starting Erb earned a $4,000 payday in a race co-sanctioned by the DiscountShopTowels.com Dirt Kings Tour and American Ethanol Late Model Tour.
Quotable: “We got ourselves in position there, and I don’t know what happened with Brian (Shirley) there,” Erb said. “I knew he was leading and then all of the sudden they told me to take the lead. We had a good car. As soon as we got out to second, we started to find a little rhythm. I don’t know what would’ve happened if it had played out, but it’s good to get the win here tonight.”
Key notes: After running third for the first half of the race, Dennis Erb Jr. grabbed the second spot on lap 27. … Erb finished a half-second ahead of Jared Seifert. … Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., had a nine-second advantage when he spun with a lapped car on lap 30; Shirley ended up seventh. … The Ethanol Tour made its first Wisconsin visit. … The $4,000 winner’s share was the richest on the Dirt King’s tour this season. … The Dirt Kings return to Wilmot on Sept. 15.
On the move: Nick Anvelink of Navarino, Wis., started eighth and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored J.R. McBride Leasing, McBride Mack, Rhino Ag, Deegan's Tire & Auto Repair, Ideal Ready Mix, VolMac Truck Sales @ Service, M&M Painting and Construction, Keyser Mfg., Integra Racing Shocks, VP Racing Fuels, Performance Rod & Custom, Allstar Performance and Hoosier Racing Tire.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Nick Anvelink (346) led Brett Swedberg (280) and Justin Schmidt (274) in the Dirt Kings standings; Brandon Thirlby (536) led the Ethanol Tour over Eric Spangler (532) and Nick Kurtz (505).
