What won the race: Holding off a furious charge from Nick Hoffman over the final five laps, Billy Moyer won Sunday’s Baltes Classic at Eldora Speedway. Moyer and Hoffman traded slide jobs in the waning laps, with Moyer edging ahead on the final circuit to win by 0.196 seconds. The Hall of Famer from Batesville, Ark., earned $5,000 for his fourth Baltes Classic victory.
Quotable: “(Winning the Baltes Classic) is cool. Everybody knows what Earl done for sure, getting this thing started way back in the day and everything he’s done (for the sport) since then,” winner Billy Moyer said. “It makes me proud to come up here and win one more.”
Key notes: Runner-up Nick Hoffman nosed ahead to lead lap 26 and unofficially took the lead a few other times in the final laps as Moyer was able to keep him at bay. ... The 11th annual Baltes Classic is the third race of the tour’s weekend tripleheader that began Friday at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway where Shannon Babb won and includes Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, on Saturday where Rusty Schlenk was the winner. … Eldora hosts the World 100 Sept. 6-8. ... ALMS action wraps up Oct. 13 at Eldora.
On the move: Part-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Chad Finley of St. Johns, Mich., started 13th and finished fifth; Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., started 17th and finished sixth.
