Shannon Babb won in the Late Model and modified divisions.
What won the race: Winning the Late Model feature on the same night he won the modified main event, Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., earned $2,000 at Tri-City Speedway on the opening night of Mod Mania. Babb, who earned $3,000 for his mod victory, captured Thursday’s 30-lap Late Model over polesitter Jason Feger and Rickey Frankel, who tangled late battling for second with Frankel saving it after getting sideways.
Key notes: Babb led every lap from outside the front row. ... Kent Robinson gave up the second spot with seven laps remaining when he stopped in turn four with steam flowing from his machine. … Collin Alexander brought out the first yellow on lap 14. The leaders were working traffic. … Tim Manville’s night ended on lap 25 when he retired with a right-rear flat. … DIRTcar Late Models were on the undercard of the 14th annual Summit Racing UMP Modified Mania Dirt Nationals. … Babb capped the night by topping Kenny Wallace to win Thursday’s opener for modifieds as well, becoming the first driver to sweep a single night’s action in the history of the Summit Mod Mania. … Late Models are back at Tri-City Friday chasing a $2,500-to-win purse and Saturday chasing $3,000 to win. … Tri-City’s season wraps up Oct. 20
On the move: Allen Weisser of Peoria, Ill., started 24th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Babb’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Petroff Towing, Donley Trucking, CJI Piping and Fabricating, Hunting for Hope and Kuebler Ultra Oil.
