Shanon Buckingham led flag-to-flag to win Saturday's SAS race.
What won the race: Sweeping the night at Smoky Mountain Speedway, Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Tenn., topped Dale McDowell for a $7,500 victory in Saturday’s Southern All Stars King of the Mountain Fall Classic 50. Buckingham’s first-ever Southern All Stars triumph came after he picked up a win in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Crate Series feature earlier in the evening.
Key notes: Buckingham led all 50 laps and finished 1.443 seconds ahead of McDowell. … His $7,500 Southern All Stars wins, combined with his $4,000 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Crate Series victory gave him an $11,500 haul for the night. … McDowell overtook second-running Randy Weaver late, dropping the recently un-retired Crossville, Tenn., driver back to third. … Buckingham scored his first Super Late Model victory since July 21, 2016. ... Series leader Jay Scott of Fayetteville, Tenn., finished 15th, but still managed to add to his point lead. … Among drivers failing to qualify: Austin Rettig, Skip Arp, Eric Hickerson, Joseph Faulkner and Ray McElhiney. … Two series races remain this season.
On the move: Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., started 15th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Buckingham’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Double Down Motorsports, Tennessee RV Supercenter, Grand Design Recreational Vehicles, Hard Rock Cafe, Classic Rock 103.5 WIMZ, Maxima Racing Oils and FK Rod Ends.
Points chase: Entering Smoky Mountain, Jay Scott (1,140 points) of Fayetteville, Tenn., led Mark Dodson (958), Ray McElhiney (956), Eric Hickerson (834) and Joseph Faulkner (678).
