Max Blair swept the action at Delaware International Speedway.
What won the race: Polesitter Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., swept the opening round of the Battle of the Bay at Delaware International Speedway on Wednesday to pick up his first win of the season. Winning by a 4.224 seconds, Blair earned a $4,000 payday in the RUSH touring opener for Crate Late Models.
Quotable: "If this place was about five hours closer to home, you'd probably see me a whole bunch," Blair said. "It's a long way down here, but it's a really nice place. We really enjoy coming here."
Key notes: Driving brand new car, Blair was dominant from the second he unloaded. After topping 53 cars in time trials, he scored a heat and dash win and went on to lead every lap of the feature. ... He was the winner of the Battle of the Bay Speedweek opener in 2018 at DIS. ... The tour kicked off its 2019 season with a four-race stretch, starting Wednesday at DIS. ... The second round will lead competitors to Georgetown Speedway on Thursday and Potomac Speedway on Friday, wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at Winchester Speedway. ... DIS paid tribute to Delmar, Del., native and longtime race fan Raelyn Huffman, who died in a car accident last May. Blair carried a tribute to her on his doorpanel; he'd driven for her father, Ray Huffman, and plans to run his car again in 2019. ... Joe Warren won the 10-lap non-qualifiers' feature.
On the move: Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, Va., started 11th and finished fourth; Roberson won last year's Battle of the Bay miniseries title.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Specialty Products, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, Moody & Son Welding, Murphy’s Logging, C&J Dairy, Upstate Auto Group, Sons of the American Legion Post 1460, Niemeyer’s Garage, Plyler Entry Systems and MWB Graphics.
