Brandon Overton earned $4,000 for his Southern All Stars win at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., outran fourth-starting Ashton Winger in Saturday's Southern All Star Series event at Talladega Short Track to pick up the $4,000 payday. The win marked his fourth career SAS victory.
Quotable: “It’s definitely a good feeling to get a win,” said Overton. “It wasn’t pretty because Ashton (Winger) about got us on the bottom later in the race, and those guys have been running pretty good lately. We’ll take it, and do our best to enjoy it.”
Key notes: Overton relinquished the lead to Winger for one lap, but quickly regained the top spot and led remaining 38 circuits. He survived a three-way battle with Winger and Austin Horton in the final five laps. … It was Overton's second win of 2019 in his new Rum Runner Racing ride and first since Feb. 8 in a World of Outlaws event at Georgia's Screven Motor Speedway. ... The 19-year-old Winger continued his strong recent showings, adding a runner-up finish to his third-place run the previous night at Smoky Mountain Speedway and his first-ever touring series Super Late Model win on April 20 in Mississippi. ... Talladega hosted the Southern All Stars for the first of three scheduled events this season. … It was the second night of the tour’s weekend doubleheader. Ricky Weiss of Headingly, Manitoba, won Friday's opener at Smoky Mountain. … Overton, who previously won a SAS feature at Talladega in 2017, became the fifth different winner in as many tour events this season. ... Talladega has been on the SAS schedule every season for 37 years. … This was the traditional NASCAR weekend at Talladega Superspeedway just across the street from TST.
On the move: Ahnna Parkhurst of Evans, Ga., started 18th and finished ninth.
