Ryan Missler earned $4,000 for his first career American Ethanol Late Model Tour victory.
What won the race: Overtaking Doug Drown for the lead with 10 circuits remaining while racing through lapped traffic, Ryan Missler of Bellevue, Ohio, went on to register his first career American Ethanol Late Model Tour victory in Friday night's 40-lap feature at Attica Raceway Park. His $4,000 triumph came by 3.030 seconds over Gregg Satterlee.
Quotable: "After the restart (on lap 13) I thought ‘oh crap, the car isn't firing the way it was before.’ But as the laps went on, the car kept getting better and better and better and I was so comfortable in that thing … it was awesome,” said Missler. “The car just picked where it wanted to go and it was good anywhere I wanted to put it.”
Key notes: It was Missler's 14th career victory at Attica. ... Missler pulled away to defeat Pennsylvania's Satterlee, who decided to invade Attica after rain dive-bombed his planned weekend trip to the World of Outlaws event in Fayetteville, N.C. ... Drown slipped to third in the feature's final rundown. ... The race's first caution flew on lap 13 when Chad Finley spun. … A dozen drivers completed all 40 circuits. … Michigan's Travis Stemler wasn't injured after flipping wildly during qualifying. His team pulled out a backup car and he went on to salvage a 13th-place finish in the feature. ... It was the second visit to Attica for the fifth-year series, which opened its 2019 season on March 31 when Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, won at La Salle (Ill.) Speedway. Three subsequent scheduled events were called off due to bad weather. ... The AELMT was scheduled to visit Ohio's Atomic Speedway on Saturday, but the event was canceled after track and series officials were unable to reach agreement on a suitable tire rule to satisfy both the track's regulars and traveling racers.
On the move: Both Brandon Thirlby of Traverse City, Mich., and Travis Stemler of Ionia, Mich., advanced seven positions — Thirlby from 11th to finish fourth, Stemler from 20th to 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Missler’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Rick DeLong Racecars, Wilson’s Barber Shop, and Handy Grafix.
Points chase: Heading into Friday's event, Tyler Erb (87 points) of New Waverly, Texas, leads Bobby Pierce (83), Chris Simpson (76), Dennis Erb Jr. (71) and Ricky Weiss (60).
