Max Blair takes the checkers in the Bill Emig Memorial.
What won the race: Making a successful late-race rally, Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., overtook Ross Robinson of Georgetown, Del., for the lead on lap 45 and went on to capture Saturday night's 50-lap Bill Emig Memorial at Lernerville Speedway. Blair beat Robinson to the finish line by 1.670 seconds for a $10,000 check that represented the richest winner's prize in the history of the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series.
Quotable: "I thought I was good in the beginning, but a lapped car got crossed up in front of me and I had to check up and lost four or five spots. It cost me so much track position that I didn't think I'd ever get caught back up," Blair said. "Then some cars got bottled up and for whatever reason I decided to try the top that lap and got back by several cars. It was a lot of fun racing with (Robinson). He lit his tires up on that restart and I knew that was my chance.
Key notes: Blair scored his fourth RUSH Series victory of the season; it came after he earned $3,000 for winning the Uncle Sam 30 for Firecracker 100 non-qualifiers, giving him a lucrative night at Lernerville. ... Blair also received a custom Zamp helmet made by five-time Lernerville Super Late Model champion John Flinner for his win. ... Robinson was an emotional runner-up; he led laps 37-44 but couldn't hold off Blair. ... Kyle Lukon led laps 1-31 and 35-36 but was involved in a late-race incident that tore up the rear deck of his car. ... Jeremy Wonderling, who started from the pole position after winning Friday night's 6-lap John Buzzard Memorial Dash, also led the feature, pacing laps 32-34 before late-race trouble left him with an 18th-place finish. ... Logan Zarin won the 15-lap non-qualifiers' race, earning $400.
On the move: Canadian Charlie Sandercock advanced from the 21st starting spot to finish seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Blair’s Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Specialty Products, Previty’s Auto Wrecking, Moody & Son Welding, Murphy’s Logging, C&J Dairy, Upstate Auto Group, Sons of the American Legion Post 1460, Niemeyer’s Garage, Plyler Entry Systems and MWB Graphics.
