Chad Simpson led all but three laps in MLRA's Rapid Speedway debut.
What won the race: Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, scored his third straight Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory on Friday night at Rapid Speedway over Tad Pospisil and Will Vaught. He pocketed $3,000 for his 14th career MLRA win as the series debuted at Rock Rapids.
Quotable: "Will (Vaught) and (Mitch) McGrath are both really good, and I figured the track was going to be really fast. You know you get on a fast racetrack like this and it's hard to pass. This Black Diamond Chassis was outstanding, and I just have to give a huge hats off to all my sponsors that have helped me out with this deal. I started this team new this year and it's a lot of fun doing that," Simpson said. "Hats off to this Jay Dickens motor. You know we got a little nervous last night that we hurt it and found out it was just a valve cover gasket. This thing was fast tonight and it just proves right here that Jay builds one hell of a motor."
Key notes: Chad Simpson's three straight victories have come in his home state at Dubuque (June 15) and Cresco (June 20). ... With his victory on Friday, Chad jumped ahead of his brother in total MLRA wins. ... Points leader Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., rebounded to finish third from the tail after bringing out a caution on lap-24. ... Mitch McGrath led the first two laps, Vaught led the third lap and Simpson led the rest of the way.
On the move: Logan Martin of West Plains, Mo., started ninth and finished fifth.
