Shelby Miles takes the checkers at Brownstown Speedway.
What won the race: Recovering from a poor start, Shelby Miles of Bloomington, Ind., captured the richest victory of his career Saturday night, topping the 40-lap Schaeffer's MARS Racing Series feature at Brownstown Speedway for a $5,000 paycheck. The second-starting Miles slipped back to sixth early but after the demise of three frontrunners — including Chad Stapleton after Miles and Stapleton came together at the end of the frontstretch — Miles took command on lap 12.
Quotable: "I apologize to what happened between me and Chad there getting in (to turn one)," Miles said. "I thought he was committed on the top and he switched lanes on me and I was on the binders. I couldn't get whoa'd in time. I want to apologize to him. I'd just as soon run 40 laps clean and run second than I would have that happen to me or someone else."
Key notes: Chad Stapleton led early before Devin Gilpin took control. ... Jason Jameson was on the verge of leading lap 11 when he slipped over the turn-two banking. ... On the restart, Gilpin's car went lame, handing the lead back to Stapleton. ... Contact between Stapleton and Miles at the end of the frontstretch sent Stapleton spinning on the 11th lap, and Miles led the rest of the way. .... Carpenter advanced from ninth to finish second while Jackie Boggs climbed forward from the 10th starting position to place third. ... Eleven of the 22 starters completed all 40 laps.
On the move: Linville of Bryantsville, Ky, started 22nd and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Miles’s Rocket is sponsored by Rock Solid Masonry, Reed & Sons Construction, Bloomington South Storage, Hinchman Racewear and All-Star Performance.
