Kyle Thomas celebrates after winning the Great American Crate Race at Tyler County.
What won the race: Kyle Thomas of Pennsboro, W.Va., narrowly held off Logan Roberson for a $7,000 Fastrak Racing Series victory Saturday at Tyler County Speedway. A slower car hampered Roberson's last-ditch bid to overtake Thomas, who led virtually all the way in the Great American Crate Race 50-lapper.
Quotable: "It's the biggest race of my career right here," Thomas said while thanking his sponsors. "There the last two laps to go I seen Logan (on the bottom), and I thought, 'I've gotta use the top now.'"
Key notes: Thomas finished 0.710 seconds ahead of Roberson. … Sixteen of the 24 starters finished the race, with 15 completing all 50 laps. … The Great American Crate Race was the first of three visits for the Fastrak tour at Tyler County this season. … Freddie Carpenter won Friday's tour stop at I-77. ... The series returns to Tyler County Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
On the move: Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, Va., charged from 11th to finish second.
Winner's sponsors: Thomas drives Rocket Chassis sponsored by Thomas & AJ Logging, Hyre's Well and Pump Service, Powell & Son Farm, Ed Wilson Manufactured Homes, The Pizza Box and Dodd's Sporting Goods.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Carson Ferguson (237 points) of Charlotte, N.C., led Nick Schlager (209), Michael Brown (139), Tim Vance (131) and Justin Hudspeth (130).
