The Wells and Sons Motorsports team celebrates Kyle Strickler's victory.
What won the race: Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., slipped by Mississippi invader Neil Baggett on the seventh lap and led the rest of Friday's Bobby Carrier Sr. Memorial at Ponderosa Speedway. He finished 4.856 seconds ahead of Jason Jameson to earn $5,000.
Quotable: “We’ve had a lot of bad luck and now finally we get a little good luck,” said Strickler. “The race car was absolutely awesome. We could go bottom (or) top when we got to lapping cars there. … We got her on a roll now. This is three in a row we have won. This place is close to the shop and I love coming here. Heck this is only my third time here and we got a win.”
Key notes: Making a rare trip north, Neil Baggett of Columbus, Miss., slipped to sixth after leading early. ... Jared Hawkins lost an engine during qualifying and scratched for the night. ... A yellow flag waved on lap six when third-running Scott James slowed after making contact with then second-running Strickler when Strickler got sideways in turns one and two. ... Greg Johnson came to a stop in turn two to draw a lap-13 caution. ... A yellow flag flew on lap 18 when fourth-running Michael Chilton got into the turn-two wall, slowing with damage to his No. 97. ... The race honored the late Carrier, who passed away in 2014. A mechanic and race car driver from Harrodsburg, Ky., he was the brother of Eddie Carrier Sr., father of former Richmond Raceway track champion Bobby Jr., and uncle of longtime Lucas Oil Late Model Series regular Eddie Carrier Jr.
On the move: Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, Ky., started 13th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Strickler's Wells and Sons Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Big Blue Smokehouse, Allstar Performance, Penske Racing Shocks, Convenient Lube, Hoosier Tire South, G-Style Transport, Doug Campbell Body Shop and Brucebuilt Performance.
