What won the race: Outrunning Jake Rainey to claim his second-straight Crate Racin' USA victory at his home track, local standout Wil Herrington took the checkers 1.076 seconds ahead of Rainey in the Salute to America Nationals feature at Cochran Motor Speedway on Saturday night. The Cochran, Ga., native bagged $3,000 for his third series triumph of 2020.
Quotable: “With all of the problems we had with our truck during this road trip, I couldn’t wait to get home,” Herrington said. “This has got to be the best race car I’ve ever had, and in its first four races, we’ve got two wins, a third and fifth. I’ll take that with any new race car right out of the box, and I just feel blessed to be able to be the guy that drives it.”
Key notes: Herrington’s previous series wins this season came May 24 at Cochran and June 27 Mountain View Raceway in Spring City, Tenn. … The three-race Crate Racin’ USA Salute to America Nationals wrapped up Saturday at Cochran Motor Speedway. … It was the tour’s seventh race of the season and third event at Cochran. … Corey Dunn of Milledgeville, Ga., won Thursday’s weekend opener at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway and Dylan Knowles of Lanett, Ala., won Friday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.
On the move: Jody Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., started 13th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Herrington drives a CVR Race Car with sponsorship from Last Air and Electrical, Herrington Automotive, Montgomery Logging, Joey Reynolds Trucking and Dowdy Construction.
