What won the race: Brandon Fouts of Kite, Ky., conquered a rugged track, heavy traffic and a pesky Dustin Linville on Friday at Mountain Motorsports Park for his first career Southern All Star Series victory. Fouts earned $4,000 in the Seth Combs Attorney-at Law 40.

Key notes: Ninth-starting Justin King crossed the line fourth, but he weight in light and was disqualified to the 16th spot. ... The pole-starting Fouts jumped to the early lead but quickly found himself in a hard battle with Linville as the leaders raced through traffic. ... Linville briefly took the lead after the two cars made contact in turns one and two, but Fouts regained the spot after more contact ensued in turns three and four. Fouts held steady at the point for the remaining distance. ... Southern All Stars points leader Billy Franklin caused an early caution when he slowed and pitted. He rejoined the field without losing a laps but later retired from the race after clipping the inside berm on a later restart. ... Another caution appeared when a flat tire forced Scott James to slow from the third position and fourth-running Josh Putnam spun to avoid him.

On the move: Raymond Nichols advanced from the 12th starting spot to finish fifth.
