Matt Cosner takes the checkers for his $3,000 victory
What won the race: Pole-starting Matt Cosner of Ridgeley, W.Va., turned back a late challenge from Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., to claim Sunday’s 30-lap King of the Knob feature at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, earning $3,000 for the first Ultimate Northeast Super Late Model Series victory of his career. The high-running Cosner lead every lap from the front row, but had to survive a hard-charging Zeigler in the closing laps. Zeigler threw a slider at Cosner in turn three as the leaders completed lap 29, but Cosner was able to pull ahead off the corner coming to the white flag and held on for the victory.
Quotable: "The car was really good. I drove like crap the last 10 laps and knew my gap was getting smaller," Cosner said. "I saw Mason's nose there with two (laps) to go, but luckily, that lapped car, I was able to slide (past) him which left me some room."
Key notes: The Ultimate Series visited Roaring Knob for the third time this season as the tour closed out its 2020 schedule. … Cosner became the third different winner for the series at Roaring Knob this season, joining previous winners Jared Miley of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Dan Angelicchio of Greensburg, Pa. … Sunday's race was the second leg of a weekend doubleheader for the series. … Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., led every lap to in the series stop Saturday at Greater Cumberland (Md.) Raceway.
On the move: Brent Trimble of Morgantown, W.Va., started 17th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Cosner’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Hershey Race Engine and sponsored by R.H. Lapp Mechanical Contractors, Nelson Auto Sales, Global Truck Outfitters, Mighty Auto Parks, Phase 2 Wrap Materials and Royal Purple.
