Pierce McCarter earned $5,000 for his Hangover victory at 411.
What won the race: Surviving a rough-and-tumble Hangover, fourth-starting Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, Tenn., held off eighth-starting Christian Hanger for a career-high $5,000 victory at 411 Motor Speedway on Saturday. McCarter took the lead from Cory Hedgecock on a lap-14 restart and led the unsanctioned Super Late Model special the rest of the way, finishing 0.383 seconds ahead of Hanger.
Quotable: “It was demanding tonight definitely demanding,” said McCarter, who drove the MasterSbilt house car. “To Cory (Hedgecock) and Dustin (Linville) man they had good cars. They had really good cars … just had bad trouble. Luckily we held it out. Man I can’t thank Jim (Beeman) and Tader (Masters) enough.”
Key notes: After heavy rain doused the area Friday night (forcing officials to scrap a preliminary program that included three Late Model divisions) drivers struggled with a choppy track surface on Saturday. … Super Late Model drivers Riley Hickman and Brian Mullins were two drivers among seven across eight divisions who ended up flipping their machines on Saturday. Hickman rolled several times during hot laps, while Mullins got upside-down during his consolation race. … Because of the tumultuous surface, only five of 21 starters finished the 50-lapper as 411 Motor Speedway hosted its 11th Hangover. Only seven drivers were on track beyond lap 25. … Polesitter Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., led the first 14 laps before giving way on a mid-race restart. A few laps later he jumped a rut, nearly hit Tyler Millwood and faded from contention before pitting with a deflating tire. … Driving a Joe Denby-owned car, Hanger, of Winchester, Tenn., appeared to be reeling the leader in when he hit a rut in turn two and lost contact with McCarter. He ran him back down, but couldn’t mount a bid for the lead. … Four-time and reigning race winner Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., was not on hand to defend his 2019 win. … Other winners included: Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va. (Crate Late Model); Zach Sise of nearby Knoxville (602 Late Model) and Brad Seagle of Seymour (Sportsman).
On the move: Tommy Bailey of Corbin, Ky., started 11th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: McCarter drove the MasterSbilt Race Cars house car powered by a Jay Dicken’s engine with sponsorship from Seubert Calf Ranches, Beeman Lumber, Superior Cleaning Services and FTS Incorporated.
