Bill Leighton Jr. celebrates in victory lane at I-80 Speedway.
What won the race: Bill Leighton Jr., of La Vista, Neb., took advantage of a lap-three restart to assume command and cruised the rest of the way to capture the second of two semifeatures for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series Friday night at I-80 Speedway. He beat Jesse Sobbing to the finish line by 3.920 seconds, to claim the $1,500 prize on the opening night of I-80's Spring Meltdown weekend.
Key notes: After leading the first three laps, Josh Leonard of Gibbon, Neb., faded to finish third. ... The only caution flag of the evening occurred when polesitter Zach Zeitner of Bellevue, Neb., retired from the race on lap three and was credited with finishing 11th. ... Jay Burdic of Malvern, Iowa, and Jeff Segebart of Westside, Iowa, did not start. ... Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., won the first 15-lap semi-feature of the night. ... Friday's twin features at I-80 Speedway kick off the 2021 season for the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series and serve as a tune-up for Saturday's $4,000-to-win event. … J.C. Wyman, Tyler Bruening, Tad Pospisil (twice) and Cory Dumpert picked up series wins at I-80 last season.
