Winner Darrell Nelson (44) heads for victory at Princeton Speedway.
What won the race: Sliding ahead of Steve Laursen for the lead on lap 26, sixth-starting Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., rolled to his third career Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series victory in the season opener on Friday at Princeton Speedway. He took the checkers 1.370 seconds ahead of John Kaanta to earn $3,000.
Key notes: Polesitter Kevin Eder of Ashland, Wis., set the pace early before handing the lead to Steve Laursen who took command until lap 26 when Nelson stole the top spot. … Laursen pulled off on lap 30 while running in fifth. … Third-starting Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., broke on the ninth lap while running in second. … Five cars completed all 40 laps. … The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series opened the season Friday with its first trip to Princeton. … The tour heads to Rice Lake (Wis.) Speedway on Saturday before wrapping up the Memorial Day weekend on Monday at Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
