What won the race: Coming off a five-figure payday at the same track a month prior, second-starting Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., recorded his 10th career Zimmer’s United Late Model Series victory in Saturday night's 30-lap Northern Region feature at Stateline Speedway. He overtook Max Blair for the lead on lap five and turned back Blair's strong bids in the final circuits to take the $3,000 top prize by a car length.
Key notes: Hess, the 2016 and '17 ULMS champion, registered his first triumph on the tour since Aug. 18, 2017, at New York's Freedom Raceway. ... Hess also won Stateline's open-wheel modified feature on Saturday. It marked the second straight week he's captured both the Super Late Model and modified A-mains at Stateline, where he won a World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series feature on June 17. ... Blair briefly lost second to Jake Finnerty early in the race before regaining the spot and chasing Hess for the remainder of the distance; Finnerty lost ground to the leaders but held on to finish third. ... Invader Coleby Frye of Dover, Pa., finished fifth. ... Saturday’s race was the first time the ULMS tour visited Stateline since 2015; before that, the tour contested 13 races at the track. ... The event served as the first leg of a weekend doubleheader for the tour after Thursday’s race at McKean County Speedway and Friday’s visit to Freedom Motorsports Park were both rained out. …
