What won the race: Polesitter Dane Dacus of Lakeland, Tenn., led all 40 laps Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway Park for a $4,000 Southern All Star Series victory. Dacus took the checkers 4.423 seconds ahead of runner-up Jamie Elam for his fourth career tour victory, three of them at Thunderhill.
Key notes: Dacus last won with the Southern All Stars on July 6, 2019, at Thunderhill; he also won the tour's 2017 visit. ... His only non-Thunderhill SAS victory came in 2010 at Clayhill Motorsports Park in Atwood, Tenn. ... Thunderhill's event was postponed one week because track preparation equipment required repair that wasn’t completed in time for the original date. … Series points leader Payton Freeman started outside the front row but retired on the fourth lap. ... Seven drivers finished on the lead lap. … Lynn Irwin scratched from the feature lineup. … The night’s action was delayed by a one-hour rain delay. … Christian Hanger won the night’s Crate Late Model feature.
On the move: Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., started 10th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Dacus drives a Rocket Chassis powered by a Dargie Engine and sponsored by Fair Oaks Ranch, O.H. Hendricks Race Metal, Randy Korte Consulting and Big Daddy’s Garage.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Payton Freeman of Commerce, Ga., led series standings with 1,116 points over Billy Franklin (814) and Mark Dodson (674).
