Winner Kyle Hardy (45) chases Gregg Satterlee (22) at Trail-Way.
What won the race: Fending off Max Blair’s charge in the final laps, fifth-starting Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., raced to the $8,000 Zimmer’s United Late Model Southern Series victory in Friday’s Junior Eckert Memorial at Trail-Way Speedway. He took the checkers 0.463 seconds ahead of Blair.
Quotable: “I heard lot of (stuff) this year running Crates, saying I can’t run with these (Super Late Model) guys,” Hardy said. “I think I can go home and think a little different. I just can’t say enough, this is such a small team and this is my biggest win ever. I just can’ believe it … what a racetrack we had tonight and we snookered ‘em on tires. We didn’t have the best car, but we’ve got some smart people back there working on this thing and that’s all that matters."
Key notes: Hardy used a slide job to steal the lead from Gregg Satterlee on lap 28 after Satterlee led laps 11-27. … Satterlee didn't take kindly to Hardy's move that sent Satterle up the banking, saying that "I usually don't try to run guys over when I pass 'em, but that's how it was tonight." The win marked Hardy's second ULMS triumph. … Polesitter Coleby Frye led the first 10 circuits but pitted during a lap-12 caution with a flat right-rear tire while running second. He finished 10th. … Five cautions slowed the 50-lapper. … Second-place finisher on Friday Max Blair of Centerville, Pa, pocketed $3,000 for winning Thursday’s Zimmer’s United Late Model Northern Series event at Genesee (N.Y.) Speedway. … The ULMS tripleheader weekend concludes on Saturday with the southern division competing for a $3,000 prize at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway.
On the move: Consolation race winner Larry Neiderer of Landisville, Pa., started 19th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Hardy's Sommey Lacey-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Guy & Guy Masonry, Penn Ave Construction, Superior Tank, Oliver Electric, Waldorf's Ford of La Plata, Pilkerton's Service Center, Reliable Concrete, All About Wraps and Schaeffer's Racing Oil.
