What won the race: Holding off Ben Watkins after a pair of late-race restarts, fast qualifier and polesitter Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., secured his seventh career Ultimate Southeast Series victory in Saturday’s Working Man 40 at Lancaster Speedway. He took the checkers 0.307 seconds ahead of Watkins to claim $5,000.

Quotable: “Ben (Watkins) got me there on the start and I (knew) I had to get back by him in a hurry to get in that good clean air,” Franklin said. “Then there at the end, the motor got to runnin' so cool that it just blubbered, so I was just trying to hold his line and block him more or less. But man, we needed (the win).”

Key notes: Franklin turned back multiple challenges from Watkins, who is coming off his first career World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory on Thursday at Lavonia. … A dozen cars completed all 40 laps. … The Ultimate Southeast Series visited Lancaster for the third time this season for Saturday’s Working Man 40.
