Hunter Peacock earned a career-high $10,000 at All-Tech.
What won the race: Surviving a late challenge from Clay Harris, outside front-row starter Hunter Peacock of Macon, Ga., snagged the $10,000 Crate Racin’ USA victory in Saturday’s second annual Harvey Jones Memorial at All-Tech Raceway. He edged Harris by a mere 0.166 seconds at the line in the photo finish.
Key notes: Peacock led 39 laps while Clay Harris edged ahead to lead only lap 36. ... Fifteen drivers completed 40 laps. ... The race honored the late Waukeenah, Fla., native, who passed away in 2009. A member of both the Jacksonville Racing Hall of Fame and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, Jones racked up 800-plus victories and multiple track championships while competing in stock cars in north Florida and south Georgia. During the 1995 season at 72 years old, he won nine features and the Late Model Sportsman track championship at Gulf Coast Speedway in Wewahitchka, Fla. … Two of Jones’s restored race cars were on display Saturday at the track.
On the move: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., started 11th and finished third.
