Chris Simpson celebrates his second tour victory over three days.
What won the race: Winning his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals race of the week, pole-starting Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, won a wild battle up front, fighting off 22nd-starting series points leader Bobby Pierce in the final laps for a $10,000 victory at Fairbury Speedway.
Quotable: "I knew (runner-up Pierce would charge to the front). That little lip up there, there's plenty for him to come on," Simpson said. "Congrats to those guys on second. It's cool to have a Hoker (Trucking-sponsored) 1-2 finish again. But they said at Davenport I didn't earn it, and this one I earned. So I hope I can swallow that one."
Key notes: Simpson also won Thursday's series stop at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. He has four career tour victories. ... Simpson led laps 24-27, 30-34 and 41 through the rest of the 50-lapper. ... Super Late Model rookie Nick Allen led the first 23 laps but slipped back to fourth on a restart and slowed on lap 47 after fading. ... Dennis Erb Jr. led laps 28-29 and 35-40. ... Six cautions slowed the action, the penultimate one when fourth-running Tanner English got into the turn-three wall on lap 41. ... Other yellows: Ryan Unzicker with a flat tire on ninth lap; Drake Troutman slowing on the 14th lap; Logan Martin pulling to the pits on lap 23; and Jason Feger slowing on lap 24). ... Fairbury hosted the tour for the 35th time and drew a season-high 50 entries.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 22nd and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Simpson’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Cheap Cars, Five Star Shop Service, Randy Davidson Trucking, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Hoker Trucking, Superior Cleaning, Capital Capsigns, Allgaier Performance, Chase Decals, Simpson Farms, IITI and Lucas Oil.
Points chase: After Fairbury: 1. Bobby Pierce (349): 2. Ryan Unzicker (335); 3. Dennis Erb Jr. (321); 4. Jason Feger (306); 5. Brian Shirley (282); 6. Payton Freeman (231); 7. Logan Martin (226); 8. Joe Godsey (219); 9. Drake Troutman (218); 10. Bob Gardner (211).
