Shannon Babb waves the checkers in Fayette County's victory lane
What won the race: Posting a history-making victory, Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., led the final 37 laps and held off Tanner English on a restart with three laps left to captured his first feature of the season in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Ill. Earning $10,000, Babb's 101st career tour victory broke a tie with Hall of Fame Billy Moyer for most all-time series victories.
Key notes: Tanner English of Benton, Ky., finished second for his third top-five in eight Hell Tour races. ... Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., rallied from a flat right-rear tire on lap five to finish third. ... Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., led laps 4-13 but finished fifth. ... Polesitter Daryn Klein of Fairview Heights, Ill., led the opening three laps, but retired on lap 27 when he brought out one of the race's three cautions. ... Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., finished eighth from the 19th-starting spot, rebounding from a rocky start to the night in which he needed a provisional. The former Hell Tour champ only took one lap in qualifying because of a loose fuel line, then blew a right-rear tire leading his heat race. ... The track joined a short list of ovals hosting two Summer Nationals events in the same season with plans for a $5,000-to-win event on July 6. ... Charlie and Kathy Depew have announced the July 6 event will be their last as promoters of the oval. ... Thursday's event followed Wednesday's cancelled race at Benton (Mo.) Speedway. The series attempted to run the event but pulled cars off the track during time trials and eventually withdraw sanctioning of the event because of poor track conditions.
On the move: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., started 19th and finished eighth.
