What won the race: Pole-starting Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., led all 40 laps Saturday at Hibbing Raceway for a $3,000 victory on the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series. The Labor Day Shootout victory marked the second of the season and seventh of Nelson's series career.
Key notes: Derek Vesel finished second at his home track, 0.265 seconds behind Nelson. ... WCS point leader Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., finished third and was unoffically crowned as the tour's champion. ... One of two multitime past series winners at Hibbing, Kyle Peterlin finished fourth at his home track. ... Series winner at Hibbing earlier this season on July 20, Travis Budisalovich of Minneapolis, Minn., finished 11th. ... Saturday's feature, the 18th visit to Hibbing in tour history and the second time this season, was slowed by one caution and lasted 12 minutes, with 19 competitors completing all 40 laps. ... While this race was the season finale for the WISSOTA Challenge Series, Hibbing's Labor Day Shootout weekend doubleheader continues on Sunday, with the independent Joni Dahl Memorial Race paying $4,000-to-win.
