Booger Brooks earned $10,000 for his Sugar Creek victory.
What won the race: Overtaking Hayden Cardwell in the closing laps, Booger Brooks of Chattanooga, Tenn., claimed the $10,000 American All-Star Series victory on Saturday at Sugar Creek Raceway. Brooks finished ahead of Jordan Hedger and Sylvan Schuette despite having a flat right-rear tire in victory lane. Cardwell's right-rear tire was also going flat in the closing laps.
Key notes: Pole-starting Michael Bland led most of the first 56 laps caution-free before a flat tire knocked him from contention (it marked the longest green-flag stretch in series history). ... Hayden Cardwell had taken the lead as Bland slowed, but Cardwell also had a tire losing air when Brooks took the lead in the closing laps. ... Brooks also won the night's $3,000 feature for 602 Crate Late Models on the Red Clay Series. ... The American All Star Series event for Crate Late Models marked the richest event in the history of Sugar Creek Raceway ... The total payout was nearly $33,000 for the tour's lone Georgia event of 2022.
On the move: Skylar Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Brooks drove A No. 148 sponsored by Hough's Flooring, Racecar Engineering and Biggen's Masonry.
