Jonathan Davenport heads for his second straight prelim victory.
What won the race: Completing his domination of Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 prelims, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., for the second straight night every lap at Lucas Oil Speedway for a $6,000 payday. The outside front-row starter took the checkers in the Don and Billie Gibson Tribute by 0.271 of a second over Tim McCreadie. Fourth-place finisher Payton Looney also closed within two-tenths of a second of the winner with 15 laps remaining in the 45-lapper, but Davenport fought off both drivers.
Quotable: "We get to start on the front row (for Saturday's $50,000-to-win finale)," Davenport said, "though it's going to be a long race. We've led 85 laps so far. Just as long as we lead the last 85 tomorrow we'll be fine."
Key notes: Davenport is the first driver to sweep Show-Me 100 prelims under the current format that started in 2013. ... Mason Zeigler started 12th and ran as high as third but slowed and retired after 28 laps while running fourth. ... Three other cautions slowed the 40-lapper (Daulton Wilson's lap-five spin; a Wilson-Tyler Stevens tangle on lap 14; and a Stevens spin on lap 29). ... Surprising polesitter Jeff Herzog hung in the top five early but faded out of contention, finishing 20th. ... The top 18 in preliminary points will be locked into Saturday's starting field for the $50,000-to-win weekend finale. ... The Don and Billie Gibson Tribute celebrates the Show-Me 100 founders formerly of West Plains (Mo.) Motor Speedway.
On the move: Lucas Oil Series points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. started 24th (because he went to a backup car after transferring through his heat race) and finished third in the main event; the SSI Motorsports driver made an early pit stop as well.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Spartan Mowers, Mark Martin Automotive, Lucas Oil, Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein, Hoosier Racing Tire, Go Lithium, Midwest Sheet Metal and K1 RaceGear.
Points chase: Before Wheatland Saturday (Lucas Oil): 1. Ricky Thornton Jr. (2,695); 2. Hudson O’Neal (2,655); 3. Brandon Overton (2,605); 4. Tim McCreadie (2,330); 5. Devin Moran (2,265); 6. Jonathan Davenport (2,260); 7. Daulton Wilson (2,170); 8. Max Blair (2,160); 9. Tyler Erb (2,130); 10. Earl Pearson Jr. (2,125). Before Wheatland Saturday (MLRA): 1. Chad Simpson (1,440); 2. Prerace notes

It's another picture-perfect evening in Wheatland, Mo. — a high of 79 and low of 63 with no rain in sight — as night two of Show-Me 100 weekend helps set the stage for Saturday's 100-lap, $50,000-to-win crown jewel main event. ... After racing to overall fast-time honors, Jeff Herzog of Festus, Mo., breezed to victory in the first heat over reigning Show-Me winner Chris Ferguson, putting the state of Missouri on the pole for a second straight night (Urbana's Dillon McCowan started from the pole Thursday). "Wish this was tomorrow night. That'd be sweet. I just have to thank the crew and everybody. ... We'll see if we can keep it up here," Herzog told FloRacing pit reporter Ben Shelton following the heat win. ... Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga. won the second heat: "This place is tricky. ... It feels no matter what I do, I don't feel better. We're a little tight right now." ... Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., rebounded from Thursday's fuel pump and oil line issues to win the third heat. ... Thursday's winner Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., took advantange of Neil Baggett's one-row deduction for jumping the start to capture the fourth heat. ... Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., marched from the third-starting position to take the fifth heat. "We need a little more side-bite, but that's probably the best we've been all week," McCreadie said afterward. ... Ricky Thornton Jr. of Martinsville, Ind., broke the motor during his third-place run in the fifth heat, but, while he qualified for the main event, he'll have to start at the tail in a backup car. ... Dillon McCowan of Urbana, Mo., kept the good times going, winning the sixth and final heat race to start sixth in the main event a night after finishing sixth from the pole. "I'd definitely like to be on the podium," he said. "I know they brought the top-five to the frontstretch (Thursday). ... I want to be on the frontstretch tonight."
