Nick Anvelink raced to a $5,000 victory at Cedar Lake.
What won the race: Pole-starting Nick Anvelink of Bonduel, Wis., led all 45 laps unchallenged at Cedar Lake Speedway, winning Friday's $5,000 24th annual Masters preliminary feature. Anvelink collected his second main event win of the season and his fourth career Late Model victory at Cedar Lake - his first since August 7, 2021.
Quotable: “I actually thought we were gonna be a little too tight at the start. Being able to get out by yourself, you don’t get in all that dirty crap. I had clean air to run in and that helps always at the beginning,” Anvelink said. “I knew like midway that I had a pretty good car, cause I could drive it around pretty decent and it was pretty stuck on the right rear. The end I was worried about because A.J. (Diemel) I could see he got to second and we’re in that rubber and I was kinda hanging just so that my right rear was in (the rubber), trying to make sure he couldn’t get under me on the bottom either.”
Key notes: Fifth-starting A.J. Diemel moved into the runner-up position on a lap-21 restart and cut into Anvelink's lead in the closing laps, finishing 0.587 of a second back. ... Darrell Nelson advanced 10 positions and finished third. ... Chad Holladay gained four spots and finished fourth. ... Jason Rauen moved forward seven positions, finishing fifth. ... Buddy Hanestad started 15th and finished seventh while his father, Rick Hanestad rolled off from 18th and placed ninth. ... After winning Thursday's $3,000 weekend opener, Jake Redetzke advanced 10 positions and finished 11th. ... Sixth-starting Jordan Yaggy advanced as high as third before getting pinched into the wall entering turn one, ending his night on lap 23. ... World of Outlaws regular Brent Larson, piloting a car owned by Kevin Eder, made heavy contact with the turn three wall while running second on lap 20, ending his race. ... Jon Tollakson was running inside the top five when he pulled off on lap 16. ... Friday's feature, the second preliminary feature before Saturday's $11,000-to-win Masters finale, was slowed by two cautions and lasted 18 minutes, with 16 drivers completing all 45 laps.
On the move: Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., started 13th and finished third.
