What won the race: Fifth-starting Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., utilized the outside line on a lap-seven restart to take the lead and never looked back, pacing the final 24 circuits at Brown County Speedway and winning Friday's $2,563 Dacotah Insurance Rumble weekend opener. Peterson secured his third career Northern LateModel Racing Association victory, all of them coming this season.
Quotable: “They farmed (the outside line) before the race and they were up there, I saw those guys kinda sliding around, so I knew it wasn’t quite ready to run yet,” Peterson said. “Then we ran a few laps and the crumbs got up there and probably absorbed some of the moisture and then I felt it out under caution and I’m like ‘that bad boy is ready for me,’ so we sent it on the restart and she stuck pretty good out there.”
Key notes: Peterson, a modified standout in the upper midwest, notched his fifth overall win of the season and the eighth of his career. ... Third-starting Scott Ward narrowly edged Chad Becker at the line for second, finishing 1.728 seconds behind Peterson. ... Sixth-starting Becker, of Aberdeen, S.D., settled for third, a scant 0.093 of a second behind Ward. ... Cole Searing advanced four positions and finished fourth. ... Pole-starting Brody Troftgruben led the first six laps before fading to finish fifth. ... Josh Skorczewski gained seven spots and finished sixth. ... Bryce Sward started 17th and finished ninth. ... Also serving as the Dennis Moser Tribute Race, the Dacotah Insurance Rumble features three main events for WISSOTA-sanctioned Late Models. The first two main events (one Friday and one Saturday) are NLRA-sanctioned, paying $2,563-to-win and award series points. Saturday's $6,363-to-win finale is strictly WISSOTA-sanctioned and does not award tour points. … Qualifiers for Saturday's Rumble finale includes each night's NLRA feature winner, along with the top 18 in combined WISSOTA points from both NLRA features plus provisionals. ... Friday's feature was slowed by two cautions and lasted 13 minutes, with 22 drivers completing all 30 laps.
On the move: David McDonald of Huron, S.D., started 21st and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Peterson’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Corky Thomas Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Enclave, Quick-Lift, TP Fabricating, AllFab Railings & Metalworks, Powdercoat Specialists and Slider Shots Media.
