Nick Hoffman celebrates his first Iron-Man Series victory.
What won the race: Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C., rocketed from the outside front row and never looked back, leading all 40 laps at Atomic Speedway and winning Saturday's $7,500 Summer Shootout. Hoffman secured his third overall win of the season and the first of his career with the Valvoline Iron-Man Northern Series.
Key notes: Fourth-starting Josh Rice saw his series win streak end at four as he finished 0.695 of a second behind Hoffman after moving into the runner-up position on lap 12. Ironically, Rice won over Hoffman in Friday's $6,000 unsanctioned Dustbuster 40 event at Moler Raceway Park. ... Fifth-starting Doug Drown moved into third on a lap-36 restart and rounded out the podium. ... Seventh-starting Zack Dohm also took advantage of the lap-36 restart and finished fourth. ... Ninth-starting Seth Daniels rounded-out the top five. ... Third-running R.J. Conley drew the race's first caution when he slowed with a flat tire on lap 24; Conley changed the flat and recovered to finish seventh. ... Rod Conley also suffered a flat tire while running third, causing the race's final caution on lap 35; Conley was only able to rebound to finish ninth. ... The second caution flew on lap 31 when Tyler Carpenter, Clint Keenan and Jesse Wisecarver were eliminated while running third through fifth. ... Saturday's 26-minute feature was slowed by four cautions, with nine competitors completing all 40 laps and 13 still running at the finish.
On the move: Andy Bond of Coolville, Ohio, started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Hoffman’s Tye Twarog Racing Longhorn Chassis is powered by Clements Racing Engines and carries sponsorship from NOS Energy Drink, C&W Trucking, Petroff Towing, Bilstein Shocks, and Allgaier Performance Parts.
