What won the race: Fifth-starting Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., overtook early leader Donald McIntosh near halfway, then held off Ricky Weiss to capture Thursday's $7,553 Schaeffer's Southern Nationals victory at Tri-County Racetrack. The series points leader crossed the finish line 0.553 seconds ahead of the pole-starting Weiss.

Quotable: “You know the high side was there and it was just timing McIntosh just right to be able to get by him because he kept sliding out,” Owens said. “The corner entry was just so narrow getting in that it was just real hard to get by him. There was a lot of clean racing. We had a good time.”

Key notes: Owens won his seventh career series victory. ... After leading the first 17 laps, second-starting McIntosh, of Dawsonville, Ga., faded to finish third. ... Dale McDowell advanced three positions and finished fifth. ... Payton Freeman gained four spots and finished sixth. ... Will Roland started 15th and finished 10th. ...
