Stomy Scott (2s) makes the winning pass on Josh Rice (11).
What won the race: Polesitter Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M., swept around race-long leader and fellow front-row starter Josh Rice on the 31st lap Saturday at Brownstown Speedway and led the rest of the 50-lap Hall of Fame Classic for a $10,000 victory on the semi-revived Northern Allstars Late Model Series. Scott wasn't challenged the final 20 laps in taking the checkers 2.047 seconds ahead of Rice for his first victory at the quarter-mile track.
Quotable: Josh Rice "was a little bit better at stop-and-go around the bottom," Scott said. "But (crew chief) Jason (Durham) told me to move up there later in the race and I think (the track surface) started to get pretty black and I knew if I could just keep it up there and get it to where (the surface) was a little bit cleaner (and) slick, I knew that's usually what we shine in. Luckily it happened that way."
Key notes: Scott notched his third career Super Late Model victory. ... The Northern Allstars, dormant since 2012, ran its second race of 2023, both at Brownstown. ... Last week's Brownstown winner David Webb ran as high as second this week but slipped back after the lap-eight restart; he finished eighth. .. Marty O'Neal earned $500 as the top-finishing driver in a Crate Late Model; he finished ninth. ... Half the 20 car field completed 50 laps. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the most serious on the seventh lap when Shelby Miles and Kaede Loudy tangled exiting turn four, sending Loudy's car nose-first into the frontstretch wall. The Miles car rested perpindicular at the flagstand while Loudy quickly climbed from his car and ran down the frontstretch in an attempt to confront Miles before a track official intervened. ... Miles and Loudy made contact in turn three and it appeared Loudy had a flat right-rear tire when they made contact again exiting turn four. ... James Rice stopped in turn four for a lap-23 yellow and Skyller Lewis spun in turn four 10 laps later. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Darrell Lanigan, Tory Collins and Steve Godsey. ... Hall of Fame inductees were Keith and Tader Masters of MasterSbilt Race Cars, Fred King and former track champ Russ Petro.
On the move: Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, Ind., started eighth and finished fourth.
