Bobby Pierce led the final 30 laps to win Thursday's $10,000 opener.
What won the race: Third-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., used an outside move into turn one to take the lead on lap six and paced the final 30 circuits to win Thursday's $10,000 My Place Hotels Quad Cities 150 weekend opener at Davenport Speedway. Pierce earned his ninth full-field World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series victory of the season and the 13th of his career.
Quotable: “We didn’t adjust too much, the track stayed pretty (much) the same all night,” Pierce said. “It was pretty fast, I know I was wiping a lot of dirt off my face. Caution-free, I was great, I was a little worried in the beginning, fell back to like fifth or sixth and we all went soft on tires, everyone in the field. I didn’t want to get up top too early, but I think I got up top half a lap into the race, so I didn’t wait too long there.”
Key notes: Pierce collected his first series win at Davenport after finishing second in five of the last six WoO races there. ... Pole-starting Dennis Erb Jr. led the first lap before being overtaken by Shane Clanton and later Pierce and finishing 2.021 seconds back. ... Sixth-starting Brandon Sheppard passed Nick Hoffman on lap 25 and finished third with Hoffman settling for fourth. ... Debuting a new Longhorn Chassis, Chris Madden started eighth and finished seventh. ... Cade Dillard ran as high as fifth on lap 20 before slipping to finish eighth. ... A two-time Davenport winner last season, Tanner English gained three spots and finished ninth. ... Clanton led laps 2-5 before fading to finish 11th. ... Thursday's 35-lap feature was completed green-to-checkered and lasted nine minutes, with 13 competitors completing the distance and 22 running at the finish. ... Dustin Walker scratched.
On the move: Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., started 16th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce’s Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Hoker Trucking, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Cajun Pools & Spas, Bloomington Normal Truck Performance, Carnaghi Towing & Repair, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Vic Hill Race Engines, Swift Springs, Bilstein Shocks, Toyota of Danville, Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body Shop, Extreme Electric, Fast1 Speed Shop, Performance Bodies, A Plus Vacuum, Lekg Tree Service, Bert Transmission by Budda, Velocita-USA, Robert and Sons Aluminum, VP Racing Fuels and FK Rod Ends.
