A family portrait at Farmer City for the victorious Jason Feger.
What won the race: Fourth-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., slipped around the outside of early race leader Ryan Unzicker on lap 13 and held off a charging Shannon Babb to lead the final 28 laps and win Friday's $5,000 MARS Late Model Championship Series feature at Farmer City Raceway. Feger extended his series points lead in securing his sixth victory of the season and the 21st of his career, moving him into a tie for sixth on the tour's all-time wins list.
Quotable: “Yeah, we’ve been struggling with this new car a little bit, but we found something this week,” Feger said. “Man, it was lightning fast tonight. I just want to thank all the fans for coming out and all my sponsors.”
Key notes: Tenth-starting Babb, of Moweaqua, Ill., stuck primarily to the low line and charged to take second on lap 33 before trailing Feger the final eight circuits and finishing 2.1 seconds back. ... Second-starting Ryan Unzicker led the first 12 laps before giving way to Feger and Babb, finishing third. ... McKay Wenger improved three positions and finished fourth. ... Recently crowned nine-time track champion Kevin Weaver gained two spots and finished sixth. ... Pole-starting Mike Mataragas faded to finish seventh. ... Kyle Hammer and Blaze Burwell each advanced five positions, finishing eighth and 10th. ... Ninth-running Myles Moos drew the race's only caution when he spun on lap 31 following contact with Logan Nickerson; Moos showed his displeasure with Nickerson before tagging the field and finishing 13th. ... Frank Heckenast Jr. pulled off on lap 16. ... Mike Spatola retired after the first lap. ... Friday's 13-minute feature saw 13 drivers complete 40 laps and 19 running at the finish.
On the move: Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., started 10th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Digital Copy Systems, Hoker Trucking, The Big Cheese MM, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Remtek Enterprises, and RLM Enterprises and Cheap Cars.
