Josh Rice heads for an $10,000 victory at Red Hill Raceway.
What won the race: Making an outside move around early race leader Christian Hanger on lap seven, Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., led the final 44 laps unchallenged to win Saturday's $10,000 Ultimate Heart of America feature at Red Hill Raceway. Rice recorded his 12th overall victory of the season and his second straight series triumph after winning Friday's $10,000 opener at Circle City (Ind.) Raceway.
Quotable: “It did (remind me of Florence), I put my Florence gear (on the car) and we went out to hot lap and it was fast,” Rice said. “(The track surface) is haul-ass when it’s early on and they got it wet. It got a lot better, I felt like we could race all over it.”
Key notes: Rice's fourth career Ultimate Heart of America Series victory moves him into a tie with Zack Dohm for the lead on the tour's all-time wins list. ... Eighth-starting Michael Kloos moved into the runner-up spot on a lap-26 restart and trailed Rice the rest of the way, finishing 2.141 seconds back. ... Fifth-starting Greg Johnson also took advantage of the lone restart and completed the podium. ... National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Billy Moyer ran as high as second in the early laps before fading to finish fourth. ... Friday's runner-up at Circle City, Hanger, of Winchester, Tenn., led the first six laps from the pole before slipping to finish fifth. ... Dustin Linville improved two positions and finished ninth, drawing with one marker of the points lead. ... Series points leader, Tristan Chamberlain improved 11 positions and finished 11th after scratching from qualifying and his heat race. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by one caution when Dean Carpenter slowed from 12th on lap 25. The 50-lap main event lasted 17 minutes, with five drivers completing the entire distance and 16 running at the finish.
On the move: Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., started 17th and finished eighth.
