Carson Ferguson picked up $5,000 for his All-Tech victory.
What won the race: Powering around early pacesetter Joseph Joiner on lap three, second-starting Carson Ferguson of Lincolnton, N.C., led the rest of the way to capture Friday's 30-lap Southbound Throwdown opener at All-Tech Raceway. Ferguson notched his third career Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series feature victory, drawing even with Ashton Winger on the tour's all-time wins list.
Quotable: “(Mark Whitener) kind of slid across my nose there on the start,” Ferguson said. “I think he thought he had me clear, but I got a run through the center and kind of started a fire under me. I drove real hard.”
Key notes: Joiner led the opening two laps before fading to eighth. ... Mark Whitener reclaimed the runner-up spot on a lap-23 restart and trailed Ferguson the rest of the way, finishing 3.188 seconds back. ... Sixth-starting Brandon Overton ran as high as second before giving way to Whitener and settling for third. The Evans, Ga., star maintained his points lead after announcing he plans to contest the full Hunt the Front Series schedule. ... Ashton Winger finished fourth without a left-front nose piece; he transferred through a consolation after making heavy wall contact on his opening qualifying lap. ... Trey Mills grabbed fifth on the lap-23 restart and completed the top-five finishers. ... Sixth-finishing Sam Seawright improved 11 positions. ... Chris Ferguson, cousin of the race winner, gained eight spots and finished seventh. ... Zack Mitchell ran as high as fourth before slipping to round out the top 10. ... Clay Harris drew the sixth and final caution when he spun from eighth on lap 22 and called it a night. ... The largest incident came when Josh Putnam spun on a lap-eight restart attempt, collecting Bo Slay, Austin Kirkpatrick, Caden Mullinax and Mark Fleischer; Mullinax was the only driver unable to continue. ... Wil Herrington slowed from seventh with apparent suspension damage and pulled off on lap two. ... Friday's feature lasted 30 minutes, with 17 competitors completing the distance and 21 running at the finish.
On the move: Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., started 16th and finished fourth.
