What won the race: Landing a physical turn-four slider that pushed Chad Holladay out of the groove on lap 17, fifth-starting Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa, led the remainder of Saturday's 25-lap Gail and Karen Hampel Memorial at Adams County Speedway. Zeitner's $3,000 payday marks his first Malvern Bank West Series victory of the season and the 16th of his career, with four of them coming at Adams County.
Quotable: “That’s not the way you want to win ‘em, you don’t want to run a guy over,” Zeitner said. “But, it’s kind of a product of their format they have and kinda get a (narrow) race track like that and you kinda gotta take your opportunities when you get ‘em. I wish I could say I’m sorry, but I’m not.”
Key notes: Zeitner's triumph makes him a perfect 3-for-3 in winning Adams County's Hampel Memorial. ... New points leader Holladay, of Muscatine, Iowa, paced 11 circuits (6-16) before getting muscled up the track on the lap-17 restart and slipping to third. ... Pole-starting J.C. Wyman led laps 4-5 before giving way to Holladay, then regaining the runner-up spot when Zeitner made his move for the lead. Wyman took the checkers 1.767 seconds back. ... Jesse Sobbing gained three spots and placed fourth. ... Kyle Berck led the opening three laps before slowing and pulling off as the race's first retiree. ... Bill Leighton Jr. slowed from third with a flat tire, drawing the race's second and final caution on lap 16. He continued and finished 17th after changing the flat. ... Jon Kirby appeared to win the third heat race before being disqualified and forced to tag the feature. He improved 10 positions and finished 18th in his series debut. ... The 25-lapper lasted 16 minutes, with 20 drivers completing the distance and 24 running at the finish.
On the move: Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., started 14th and finished sixth.
