Bobby Pierce flashes under the checkered flag to capture Thursday's Silver Dollar Nationals opener at Huset's Speedway.
What won the race: Extending his torrid run of success to new territory, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., won flag-to-flag in Thursday’s 40-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature to kick off the Silver Dollar Nationals weekend at Huset’s Speedway. The 27-year-old star was never seriously challenged en route to a $10,000 payday for his first win of 2024 on the national tour and his sixth triumph in his last seven starts overall.
Quotable: “I don’t know what it is, I was beat up last year after the race (the 80-lap Silver Dollar Nationals finale), and I am again,” Pierce said. “You’ve got to stay on the wheel I think literally the whole time around the racetrack with how it’s shaped and with how the banking flattens off in certain spots. The second you relax is when you push and make a mistake so it’s tough.”
Key notes: Pierce’s fifth straight and 21st victory of 2024 came by 2.224 seconds over fellow World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series regular Brandon Sheppard, the defending Silver Dollar Nationals champion who has been a runner-up behind Pierce in five of the last six races that they’ve both competed in. … It was Pierce's 16th career checkered flag on the Lucas Oil Series. ... Polesitter Daulton Wilson ran second for the race’s first three circuits before settling into third place for the rest of the way. He earned his second podium result in his last four Lucas Oil Series starts. … Devin Moran finished fourth after wrestling the position away from Hudson O’Neal, whose two-race Lucas Oil win streak came to an end with a fifth-place finish. … The race's lone caution flag flew on lap 23 for debris. ... After another 40-lap, $10,000-to-win feature on Friday, the top 16 point earners during preliminaries will be locked in to Saturday’s feature. Points also set the lineup for Saturday’s consolation, which precedes the 80-lap, $53,000-to-win finale.
On the move: Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., started on the tail after pitting during the pace laps and finished 15th.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce’s Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Low Voltage Solutions, Rio Grande Waste Services, Hoker Trucking, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Oakwood Tire Center, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, K1, Carnaghi Towing & Repair, Toyota of Danville, Floyd’s Waste Systems, PureMax Racing Oil, A Plus Vacuum, Leka Tree Service, Bert Transmissions by Budda, Ted Brown’s Quality Paint & Body Shop, VP Race Fuels, Swift Springs, Bilstein Shocks, Dirt Car Lift and Performance Bodies.
